Re-relased in 2021 the album cover - Fistful of Metal by Anthrax

This debut album is the only Anthrax album with the initial lineup including Scott Ian, Dan Spitz, Dan Lilker, Charlie Benante and original vocalist Neil Turbin.

Fistful of Metal

Released 1984

This album is not usually listed as a classic first release, unlike Metallica’s Kill ‘em All, but serves as a historical record of Anthrax finding themselves and their sound. The album does have some hidden gems, including the still often played live ‘Metal Thrashing Mad’ which would be a step towards the Anthrax sound that metal fans would come to know and love. While other songs on the album "Subjugator", and "Panic" are reminiscent of bands like Judas Priest and Motorhead that helped pave the way for bands like Anthrax and other members of the Big 4 (Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica).

The album pictured for this article is the 2021 LE release black with red splatter and can be found for around $30. Anthrax have recently been on the road celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Among the Living. The Heavy Metal Hippie has caught them numerous times over the years, including the “State of Euphoria’, and “Sound of White Noise” tours, and more recently in 2018 on my wedding night. Now if they would play "I’m the Man" again live. . .

Peace, Love and Mosh Pits
