(22 March 2025, Ocean View) The rains did not hold back the fans from attending last night’s performance by Valhalla at Tiki Mama’s in Ocean View. Once again MoshPlayLive made the journey South for an incredible ride across the Big Island, traversing desert, seaside cliffs and a volcano before arriving at KaiLoki’s for a quick meal before the show.
Arriving 15 minutes before the doors were to open, I found a line stretching out to gain entry and by the time I parked, the doors opened and the venue began to fill up. Table spots were quickly occupied and with the rain starting to fall right before showtime, cover was at a premium. On a related note, there are chairs and tables available at the venue and you may bring your own chair if desired.
Green Machine took the stage performing classic hits from the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Tom Petty to Jethro Tull, David Lawrence and the rest of the guys from Green Machine had the people up front dancing in the rain.
Valhalla took to the stage for a 15-song set spanning the career of Led Zeppelin. With a nod to the Big Island, the set list mimicked the evening, with talk of Misty Mountains, Valhalla played to the weather with “Rain Song”>”When The Levee Breaks”>”Ocean.” One of the highlights for me was “The Song Remains the Same”, with guitarist Andrew Matthews playing a double-neck guitar. You can check out a video of that performance on our IG.
Valhalla was wrapping up their 2025 tour of Hawaii, having played shows previously in the week at the Blue Dragon Tavern and Cosmic Musiquarium, Da Shark Shack and Laverne’s Sports Bar. David Lawrence from Green Machine joined the members of Valhalla for their final 3 songs of the evening “Rock and Roll”> “Whole Lotta Love,” before ending the night with the appropriate ‘Thank You” to call an end to the 2025 Hawaiian Tour. The crowd's energy was amazing, the biggest crowd I’ve seen at Tiki Mama’s yet. Weather be damned, nothing stopped the people from dancing in the rain. It’s also good to see my “Lord of the Ring” knowledge finally paid off for the trivia contest. On a final note it would be cool to get them to come to Hilo next year. . . just saying.
Peace, Love & Mosh Pits,
