Final Nancy Boy Show in Hilo, 8.11.2024

“This is the end.” Those words were uttered by Nancy Boy lead singer Envy during last night’s Nancy Boy farewell performance. When we spoke with Nancy Boy in July, they discussed wanting to do a final tour before heading to the New York area for college. After shows in Honolulu and Wailuku, Hilo was the last stop. Fans of Nancy Boy came together at the Hilo Town Market and were treated to quite an evening.

Artist Lucianna Magnifica opened the evening with a performance much to the delight of the crowd, setting the stage for what was to come. STI’s blistering-paced music, drew moshers into the first pit of the evening and with a lead singer switch they treated us to a few songs by STD Sentient Thrash Dummies.

The extraterrestrial Rock N Roll duo, Goza soared into town, beamed us aboard, and launched us into outer space for an incredible set. Rani and Drew sound amazing together, the crowd ate up Drew Zaragoza’s guitar work with drummer Rani providing the beats that kept the crowd in a trancelike dance until they beamed everyone back to earth in time for Kauz of Affliction’s set.

K-O-A got the pit going with their catchy lyrics and punk rock sound, playing their new singles ‘Gas Station Burrito’ and ‘The F**K song. MoshPlayLive sends special thanks to Kauz of Affliction’s Erik and Justine who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make things happen for fans and artists alike!

That brings us to the evening’s headliner -- Nancy Boy performed for themselves and for their fans. This was a celebration as fans danced. Lead singer and screamer, Envy weaved among the crowd all night long, Tiger, on guitar provided a stripped down set for the crowd. Near the end of the show guitarist Memphis and bassist Alex assisted in the shaving of Envy’s head. Then it was one more song before the emotionally charged set came to an end. We wish Nancy Boy much success as most of the members leave the Island for their next adventure. For now, fans will have their newly released album for the memory of Nancy Boy.

The wild show in Hilo showcased a wide variety of musical and artistic talent. Fans are already wondering when Nancy Boy will return for another appearance. STI/STD pound out heavy fast riffs keeping the sound of punk/metal alive. GOZA’s live performances continue to wow. K-O-A’s punk assault is everywhere, supporting the current scene, helping to build the future and releasing new songs.

For me, the Big Island is experiencing one of those amazing moments in music with new bands, seasoned artists and fans living and breathing music. MPL invites you to come out and discover new artists and the variety of music genres. Support local venues and local musicians!
