Whatever, Heather and Surprise Guest (Recap)

(Kawaihae, Hawai’i, 11.30.2024)  Whatever, Heather combines exceptional musical talents and together they bring high energy to every show. Beneath a starry sky and colorfully lit palm trees at the Blue Dragon Tavern and Musiquarium, the band created magic on Saturday night. Whatever, Heather played a 3-set show covering a wide range of rock ‘n roll songs on this warm evening.

Some shows gain legendary status when a special synergy happens. The last day of the eleventh month in 2024 will be long remembered by those who traveled to Kawaihae for the show. Whatever, Heather sounded tight as always, offering up a more diverse setlist than the previous times we had caught them. Guitarists Mike Pollard  and John Baldwin intertwined the sets with fast paced solos. The band members wandered among the audience during breaks to say hello and a, “thank you for being here.”

Early into the second set lead singer, Shaye, told the crowd that they had something special in store and did they deliver. “The Go-Go’s were the ones. . . as a little girl, that made someone like me think, man I can get up, I can rock. These are the women that changed history for us.” She introduced guitarist Jane Wiedlin, who joined them to perform her song, “Amerinoid.” The crowd expressed much delight and we danced like fools. Wiedlin ended the song loudly proclaiming, “Punk’s not Dead.”

You know a show is amazing when it ends with the audience wanting more. Shaye wished everyone a safe trip home. With back to back memorable shows to end the year, and lead singer Shaye’s new single “Dreamer” about to drop, Whatever, Heather’s 2025 looks to be an exciting one.
