The Rockaways Rock the Big Island

Updated: Oct 27, 2024

(Hilo, Hawai'i, October 26, 2024) The Rockaways, EL Misfits, Kauz of Affliction, Sentient Thrash Dummies, and a solo Alcohaole delivered Punk Rock goodness for fans in attendance at the Hilo Town Market.

A solo set from Alcohaole started the evening off with an acoustic set. With songs like ‘One More Drink For All’ and ‘City Slickers.’ Alcohaole's set was a fun way to start off the show.

Sentient Thrash Dummies (STD) was up next and Mosh Play Live really likes how STD are growing musically.  With each passing performance they show dedication to their craft. With true theatrics, each member took turns on their instruments after pretending to take down their lead singer and roll her off the stage.  A great performance from the next generation of punk rock on the Big Island.  Members of STD do more than their music, with each member dancing in the pit to bring the energy all night long.  Mosh Play Live looks forward to their next show with Strung Out in December.

Kauz of Affliction (KOA) followed STD and changed up their setlist for this show. Erik channeled Robert Smith of the Cure and then kicked into Rob Zombie’s “Dragula.” KOA took the crowd through a whirlwind set including covers of the Cure, the Cranberries, a killer rendition of ‘Cry Little Sister’ from the Lost Boys Soundtrack before wrapping up their set with a new single ‘Babba Yaga’ and ‘The F**k Song’.

El Misfits were next with the guys from EL Sancho donning their alter egos for their yearly outing.  They opened with ‘Halloween’ ‘Where Eagles Dare’ Astro Zombies’ a nice version of  Danzig’s ‘Mother’ into the Misfits ‘Mommy Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight’ and ending the night with ‘Last Caress’. With costumes and coffins, El Misfits were so much fun as they ran through a 15-song set. They had the crowd going throughout the entire set, bodies crashed and elbows lashed left and right during a super fun set. “Here’s to next year’s appearance.”

The Rockaways headlined the evening and were up on stage as El Misfits were walking off. There was no rest for the weary dancers as the Rockaways kicked into their set with “Durango 95” before jumping into “Blitzkrieg Bop” and running through 20 more songs before ending the night appropriately with “Pet Sematary.”  Highlights for me included “Beat on the Brat” and  “Surfin' Bird”.  The Rockaways definitely have the sounds and vibes of the Ramones.  The fans in attendance really made the Rockaways feel welcome in Hilo.  A loud raucous crowd greeted all the bands and really showed that the Big Island has something going on.

There are plenty of more shows hitting the area, get out and support them.  There is no better time to be part of all this, get to a show and meet us in the pit.

Peace Love & Mosh Pits
